Our history rolls back to the early 60s, more precisely to 1964, when the hopes and wishes of Dionisio Elustondo and his 4 children came true. Together with his descendants, José Antonio, Javier, Luis Mari and Maite, he opened their 1st specialised boutique on wallcoverings and paints in Bilbao. The pioneer Company and the boutique shared the same name -Banaka-, still a very popular brand nowadays, specially for those who lived and grew up in the era of Bilbao's industrial modernization.
In 1965, Banaka started its diversification into other activities, all of them within the Wallcoverings industry. To the original activities, Banaka added its services as wholesaler, distributor and representative in Spain mainly for manufacturers in UK, Belgium and Germany.
Thanks to the experience acquired from the diversified activities, in 1970, Banaka started editing its own wallcoverings and in 1973 it launched its 1st manufacturing plant (own designs & creations) in Ugao, a village South of Bilbao. In 1978, the Company changed its brand from the pioneer "Banaka" to the current name: Kemen -nowadays a well known brand all throughout Spain. Since then the project has been leaded by Javier Elustondo.

In 1984, Mr. Elustondo decided to diversify into a new -and at that time promising- wallcovering product: Vinyl- and Vinelus, SA was incorporated to respond to this new challlenge. The new manufacturing plant is located in Mungia, a small village very close tu Bilbao´s airport and city centre.
Both Kemen and Vinelus have gone through several ups and downs in the global wallcoverings market, specially during the deep recession of the late 90s and early 2000s. From this and other difficult situations, Kemen Group has come out successfully and even reinforced, mainly due to its agility and quickness implementing and adapting changes.
In 2005, Kemen undertook a 10 years marketing plan. One of the primary actions consisted in the launch of a new international brand: Kemen Wallcoverings. Since then, both Kemen and Vinelus operate internationally under the samen brand.
Today, Kemen Wallcoverings is a leading manufacturer and distributor of wallcoverings in Spain. Our proven experience, our avant-garde designs and the quality of both, our products and our people, back our optimism towards the future challenges of the wallcoverings global market.
